Unto Year # 2

All new moms say this, but I cannot believe that Jack is one. I thought that when he would turn one, that he would already be running around the house, have a different older looking face, and saying many words like yes, no and thank you. Silly me. It was weird to see Jack on his birthday and still see his little baby face. He looks somewhat older, but not as older looking as I thought he would. Does that make sense?
My best friend Allie told me that she found it hard to sing Happy Birthday when her daughter turned one, cause it is such a huge milestone.
The night before his birthday, I took Jack to bed. And saw this boy sleeping in the crib and couldn't believe that a year has passed by. I was trying to have a slide show in my head of his first year, but all I could think about was how it felt to feed Jack. I would sit on the couch, and he would happily feed as he lay on the boppy. And I would watch the four o'clock news. I was trying to remember his little sounds that he made while he fed, and I started to cry. Like a scene out of a movie, I was looking at my little boy, in his room in the dark, and I cried. I came back into the living room and looked at Brian. He didn't have to ask why I was crying.

I am really glad that I have kept up with this blog. I like that others still read this blog, and I like that I have an eternal diary of what it felt like to expierience all of life's firsts.

Unto year 2, and I cannot wait til the summer.

Jack and I were on our way to my parents house for a small birthday get together. This was the alleyway of eternity, as I desperately tried to push the stroller down an alley that was not shoveled at all.

Best Brian quote

"Brian is proud that his one year old son will never consider a black american president to be a rarity" - Brian's Facebook status on Obama's inauguration.

The jibbers and jabbers of Young Lord Morowczynski

With the word Mama, now Jack has realized that , hey talking is fun! And if you talk, people respond to you and talk to you and in turn you can talk more!
When Brian and I are talking, sometimes Jack just looks at us now and gives us this look like "I really want to give my two cents to this converation." Which he does and it sounds like this-

Lots of "L" sounds and "R" sounds coming from this kid. When he says this we say to him "but then what else happened." And more lrlrlrlllrlrl comes out. It is really the cutest thing that we hear at our house right now. Other Jack noises;

-When he sees an animal on TV or in a book, he goes "Awwww" Like Awww look at the cute horsie!
-He recognizes a horse now and knows the sound that a horse makes. Whenever he sees one, he immediately goes "pfffftttt." Or if I make a clop clop sound of the horse, he finishes my sound effect with a pffftt.

First Word - Mama

This happened early Saturday morning. He woke at his now usual 5:30 and was whining for a bit.
When he said "wehhhhhh Mama. Maaaaa.

He almost said Papa when Brian tried to teach him Papa. And all Jack could do was "pah. Pah." Basically making the P sound but not putting the two together.
Jack only says Mama when he is upset though. He doesn't say it when he is happy.

Well, we'll never do that again and Jack's lullabies

Friday, January 9, 2009
I was sitting on the couch, trying to put Jack's socks on. Brian comes in and places a glass of OJ on the armrest of the couch.
The next few seconds happened very suddenly.
Jack reached over , in which silly me thought that the juice was far out of his reach.
It wasn't.
The next sound that I hear was the biggest ker-splush! as the juice spilled all over the couch and unto my skirt. I had five minutes to try to find something else to wear since I had to catch the train to work.
Jack was fine and not a drop of juice was on him.

Last night's lullabies - Depeche Mode's Sacred and It doesn't matter two. It's kind of funny to sing such lyrics as "Though we may be the last in the world, we feel like pioneers." Thank god Brian wasn't there. He seems to think that only the vampires listen to Depeche.

Favorite Jack Moment - November 1,2008

This was the day of Julian's birthday party. And the first kid party that Jack actually knew of what was going on. There were kids galore at this party, and Jack's special friend, Olivia, was there. For those of you who don't know, Olivia is the daughter of my best friend Allie. As soon as Jack was born, we immediately betrothed Jack to Olivia. They are nine months apart. It's perfect.
Below is the photo of their first kiss. Of course, Jack being the boy, was turning away slightly.

Jack's first "I'll smile for the camera" photo

Rain here and there, but Brian still went out to BBQ at his dad's that day. It was just a typical lazy day weekend , when these pics happened.

Favorite Jack Moments

To start the countdown til Jack turns the big ONE, I am going to start posting my favorite Jack moments from this past year. I'll post Brian's too but first I actually have to remember to ask him about his favorite moment.

First day out - February 15,2008
Last winter was brutal. And I have taken it as my personal job to let everyone and every girl know to not have a baby in the middle of winter. Cause man that was hard. So the first time we went out, there was still a lot of snow on the ground. Thankfully, the sidewalk was shoveled just enough to walk on without slipping down on your butt. And the weather was a hot and humid 29 degrees. BONUS! I needed makeup, so I took that as an excuse to go out with Jack. Alone. With snow built up at three inches high. Bundling Jack up was a bit of a challenge, since he protested as I wrapped him up in the warmest one piece that I had with a cute GAP hat, and on top of that , placed a blanket on top of him. But I felt so proud as soon as I stepped outside. New mom, braving the harsh world, with only her baby at her side. When I walked into CVS, everyone gave me this smile. That smile, that you receive when you have a stroller with you, and I know that everyone was dying to know what the baby looked like. Some people went "Awwww" as they saw him.
"Yeah, I know. He is adorable."
All I did was smile. I felt prouder. Then we came home in time to watch Jeopardy.
