Jack and the Cookie Monster

Jack usually announces all the characters when the Sesame Street intro plays. Today, he did something different.

Happy 2nd Birthday

January 22, 2008 - 5:33 pm

January 22, 2009 - 5:33 pm

January 22, 2010 - 5:33 pm - Jack was checking out our friends Jake and Laura, before he would say hi to them. Hence his "Do I know you?"position.

Birthday # 2

This was the birthday weekend of all birthday weekends. Three days, three different birthday cakes, three different groups of people. All gathered around to celebrate the big 2 for Jack. Is turning 2 bigger than 1? I thought the first birthday was the big birthday. But this past weekend was alot. And when it is your son's birthday, there are no rules as to how many birthday cakes you may have.

Friday - January 22
I took the day off and we went to MSI. It was free! We wanted Jack just to roam free around the museum and do whatever he wanted. However, he just wanted to be carried by me all day. Hey you're two!!! You should be running around as much as you should. Alright, I maybe exaggerating a bit as I didn't carry him around that much. Jack took great pleasure in showing us the baby chicks.

First cake of the weekend - two layer chocolate cake, with tapioca and banana filling and french vanilla frosting. Made by the new Pastry Chef of the Morowczynski household- me.
Day 2 - January 23

This was the first of the two birthday parties. We went to the Oak Lawn children's museum. Which is two floors of fun and exhaustion. Exhausting for parents, but not for the kids. It was a great place to have it and Jack and his friends are in that perfect age for the museum. Where all they get to do is run around from play area to play area. Jack found a great bumblee hat in the puppet show theatre. Here he was just taking requests for songs, Aunt Jill said Piano Man.

Day three - January 24

A birthday party at our place. This was the party that my parents threw since my mom and my sister couldn't be with us the day before. It was Sesame Street themed and it was Elmo galore!
My uncle and his family came over as well and Jack scored with an ABC Elmo doll ( from my parents) and a Toy Story hoodie ( from my aunt and uncle).
The cake was the fanciest cake out of the three days - yellow cake with strawberries and kiwi. We have tons of leftover cake if anyone wants. We are spent, in more ways than one. It was a great long weekend.
PS - Turning two magically made Jack say thank you now after he is done with his meals. But he says it in Spanish, with the tradional "Dios le pague" which a quick translation is "I thank God for you." Mark that as another notch in the Jack milestones.

One more week til the Big 2

It's exciting for a parent to know that their child is about to turn one. What a milestone! One year old and your baby has grown from an infant to this little toddler that is just about to walk and talk.

And then , two rolls around.

I am getting excited that Jack will be two next Friday, but for some reason a strange nervousness comes about. I keep telling that to Brian and he keeps asking "What is there to be nervous about?" I always think about that and I never come up with a great answer. "I don't know. I just am."

Here is why;

We are now entering into this great world called potty training. How the heck do we do this? Jack is a boy. Do you sit boys down when they have to go? Do you teach them in the standing position already? I want to say that we just give this task to his daycare teacher. But Jack only goes there on Thursdays and Fridays. Plus we have to buy more than one portable potty since Jack goes to my parents on Mondays and Tuesdays. Which one is a good one to use? So many potties, so many questions.

I do feel a slight tinge of sadness. Jack will be two. I hate that when people ask "Do you remember when Jack was 3 months old?"

I say "barely...."

How could that have happened? I am supposed to be Super Mom. Ruler of the Universe. Super Mom who knows all and remembers all. And yet, I can slightly remember what Jack's cries were like. I cannot wish that Jack was a little baby forever though. Brian and I have come so far from where we were a year ago. A year ago, Jack would cry in his crib when it was time to go to sleep, and would wake up early in the morning ( 4:30 am ) to start his day. We had our first broken foot (NEVER AGAIN!) , first steps, first time Jack said "Look at that".

So here we are. Life goes on and in a week, Brian and I can say that we are parents of a two year old. That is our own proud milestone.

PS - Jack now happily goes to sleep on his own. No fuss, no crying, no screaming.

It's Official

Jack's favorite new movie is UP.

His new sentence is " Mama, sgkinfv SnfSLv ldfnslf vsfjlnsjfvn UP ? I am guessing that he is asking me to put the movie on.

I am almost tempted to say " YES!" every time he does ask, because I love that movie way too much. But with his playtime in the morning and his morning ritual of Special Agent OSO, via the Disney Channel, I have to be mindful and not play the movie all the time. Even though, if I ruled the world, and having the TV on wouldn't be considered a bad thing, I would have UP on all the time as well.

And now, many words from Jack

I think he was telling John Little People that UP is on the TV right now and it is the greatest movie ever to watch with Mama.

First Hotel Stay

Working in a hotel has its perks - such as staying in the hotel that you work at. I had an opportunity to do so, at a date of my choice. I picked December 23, the day before Christmas, the day that I get to leave work early, the day before the holidays. Brian and Jack checked in before me and Brian said that as soon as they walked in the room, Jack ran over to the windows and never left. My thought was that in having a king size bed in the room, we could sleep together and not worry about cribs for once.
Wrong.
At 10pm, Jack was still running from the bedroom to the living room, from the living room to the bedroom, just looking out and occasionally saying "Mama, Papa, CHOO CHOO!" as he saw the El go by. It was at that point that Brian called Housekeeping to bring in a crib. Placed the crib in the room, placed Jack in the crib and give him the hint that it was time for bed. He ended crying for about 5 minutes before he drifted off. That late night ended up with a late wake up time for us. 8 am!!
When was the last time we all woke up at 8?

Nanini and the Cutest Boy ever

Our niece , Nathalie, has been in Brazil for the past 10 days for the holidays, and Jack has been missing her. Badly. They see each other about once a week, but it was that one weekend that Jack didn't see her that now he keeps asking for her.

Nanini? Nanini? Nanini not here. - Jack

Yesterday, we were at the library when we walked into the children's room. A little girl probably around 4 came up to Jack and gave him a big hug and was about to kiss him when her parents stopped her.
"Judi, you just don't go up to boys and kiss them."-parents
"He is the cutest boy I have ever seen. He is so cute I want to kiss him."- Judi

Meanwhile Jack acted like he was cool and just went right to the computers, completely oblivious to the fact that some girl fell in love with him.
